Dear Friends & Colleagues,

Greetings from West Chelsea!

With the fall season in high gear and summer fading in our memories, I'd like to tell you about a project currently in progress at the studio.

Eglomisé Sample for Tavern On The GreenAs a New York native, I have a special place in my heart for certain landmarks where personally significant and memorable events have been celebrated. One of them is Tavern on the Green, scheduled to open anew in January 2014.

We are creating églomisé panels to be inset above the banquettes circling the perimeter of the dining room, featuring a linear frieze of Shingle Oak branches and leaves gilded in a multitude of precious metals. The delicate design holds an occasional surprise hiding among the flora. Pictured on the right is an image of a final development sample.

Restaurateurs Jim Caiola and David Salama have hired executive chef Katy Sparks to helm the kitchen and bring her passion for bold flavors and sustainability to a beloved space which is being restored to its original 19th century grandeur. I'm delighted to be contributing to this much anticipated event.

INTERIOR DESIGN MAGAZINE - Concentric Circle Door Panels

Just one year ago during Superstorm Sandy, we were creating a very modern and unusual series of dressing room door panels for interior designer Harry Heissmann. The project was recently published in the September 2013 issue of INTERIOR DESIGN magazine's City Living section in an article entitled "His Master's Voice."

The églomisé glass panel insets were gilded with precious metals etched in multiple patterns and enhanced with textural elements including crushed abalone, mica and fine glass beads. Working without heat or electricity was challenging, but we prized the results and were extremely pleased to see Harry's striking space receive such well deserved attention! During the summer I collaborated with interior designer Harry Schnaper to create four sliding door panel insets for a residential interior library cabinet.

The design features a 22-karat gold cherry tree bursting with flower blossoms in a multitude of precious metals and resting beside a stylized river of curves executed in palladium and mica powders. Each panel measures approximately 20 by 63 inches and all elements float upon an oil gilded palladium leaf background. Everyone who visited the studio fell in love with it … including us!

The winter schedule includes several stimulating projects that are challenging in new and modern ways including some multiple laminations. I relish these opportunities and look forward to sharing the results in future newsletters. If you have an idea that you would like to see realized in verre églomisé, let's make it happen!!

Wishing you all the very best during the upcoming holidays!

Kind Regards,
